Discontinued Fast Food Items

This is a list of items I have compiled that companies have discontinued and the issues that caused companies to pull these items out of their stores, with one item that a company has decided to bring back.

Taco Bell's Bell Beefer

BellbeeferThe Bell Beefer was Taco Bell's way of combatting the popularity of fast food burgers from its competitors. It was very similar to a sloppy joe, due to the use of taco meat instead of a normal burger pattie. It consisted of taco meat, diced onions, shredded onions, mild sauce, and two buns to hold the sandwich together. The item was introduced in the 1970s and survived until the mid-'90s. It was a hit once it was introduced, but it was pulled out rotation due to a lack of sales once it lost favor with customers in the late '80s.



McDonald's Pizza


CollectingCandy // Chloe EffronMcDonald's introduced the Pizza as a means to combat the issues it had trying to find a dinner menu item that their fans would love. They had a full breakfast menu and they easily found sales at lunch time as people were rushing during their lunch breaks. So, in 1986, the company decided to take on the pizza industry as well. A stimulating amount of issues became present once they attempted to sell pizzas. The time to make them doubled when the location was busy, renovations had to be made in the restaurant to accommodate for equipment, and it, unfortunately, became a costly nuisance that caused the company to drop the project altogether.

Wendy's Chicken Caesar Pita


Image result for wendy's chicken caesar pitaThe Chicken Caesar Pita was added to the menu list back in 1997. It was one of three pita items, but they only lasted 3 years on the menu list. There is no known reason as to why they were removed from the item list, but they still retain a small cult following, to the point that a copy-cat recipe has been posted online.







Burger King Cini-Minis (Back from the past!)


This item was first introduced back in the '90s (no particular date) and was served as a breakfast item for only 99 cents. This four-piece Cini-Minis have been brought back due to an online petition aimed at Burger King which received over 2 thousand signatures. However, these items cannot be purchased in-store but only by ordering more than $10 worth of Burger King food through Grub-Hub. If you are an Arkansas resident like me, you were unfortunately not added to the list of 32 states which Burger King is performing the Grub Hub deal.


Pizza Hut's Triple Decker Pizza





A cholesterol killer, this Pizza Hut special was made with an extra layer of dough and cheese! This calorie-laden pizza was a fan favorite, with Redditors like u/pdman57 posting about the classic in recent times. In that same post, it was discovered that one of the main reasons the item was discontinued was due to its length prep time.

Burger King Whopperito


This is one of the most recent items to be discontinued, as it was introduced into stores nationwide in August of 2016. This item contained most of the elements of a Whopper except for the bun and sauces as these are replaced with a tortilla and queso. It was first introduced to a limited area in Pennsylvania before it was massively introduced. It received a generally positive reception but was simultaneously described as a weird combination of flavors. There is no news as to whether this item will ever come back.
