Each and Every Bond... James Bond.
The most prolific spy of all time (that is definitely an oxymoron) has to be 007, James Bond. With the inclusion of the radio actors, there have been a total of TWELVE James Bonds. Twelve men have had both the honor and the privilege to play the character, however, we will only be covering those who have shown up on screen as the spy.
Barry Nelson
Barry Nelson was the first James Bond - contrary to the popular belief in which Sean Connery was first. Nelson played during an hour-long special of Casino Royale on CBS, Oct. 21, 1954, at 8:30 pm. While this may not be a FILM it still marks itself as the debut of the character, 007, on any screen.
Sean Connery
Mr. Connery has had what people thought would be a perpetual career as the character James Bond. The love for Connery is so strong, that some people accept him as the only "Bond" or the true James Bond.
Dr. No (1962), From Russia with Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), You Only Live Twice (1967), Diamonds Are Forever (1971), and Never Say Never Again (1983)
Roger Moore
Roger Moore was a much more Macgyver like James Bond, with gadgets galore and the know how to get out of any situation. His time in the spotlight showed a Bond that was more energetic but just as charming.
Live and Let Die (1973), The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Moonraker (1979), For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983), and A View To Kill (1985).
David Niven
David Niven began and ended his time as 007 with the 1967 version of Casino Royale. With such low ratings and distaste for this movie, we would much all rather forget his time in the suit than grant him another go.
Casino Royale (1967)
George Lazenby
George Lazenby not only played James Bond in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" - but the gentleman was also in the Australian Special Forces. His one performance as 007 showed great reviews from multiple critics and sites, even if it seems to be an intense snow skiing film.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)
Timothy Dalton
Timothy Dalton's career as Bond was unique. He was approached twice following Sean Connery's performances (just after You Only Live Twice and just after Diamonds Are Forever) to star in the role as 007 but rejected it - stating that he was too young to play the character. Once he debuted, his first film, The Living Daylights, grossed better than the two previous Roger Moore Films and against its competition that year (Die Hard and Lethal Weapon). However, License to Kill fell short.
The Living Daylights (1987) and License to Kill (1989)
Pierce Brosnan
Pierce Brosnan was the James Bond that I watched as a child. His performance brings out nostalgia and he was what I grew accustomed to seeing as James Bond. Each Bond film he starred in grossed larger than the previous one, with Die Another Day as the largest grossing Bond film of all time until Daniel Craig's Casino Royale.
GoldenEye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World is Not Enough (1999), and Die Another Day (2002)
Daniel Craig
Daniel Craig is the current James Bond. First and foremost, he is not the same James Bond that you watched from the past. He isn't Sean Conner, Roger Moore, or Pierce Brosnan. Daniel Craig is a different version of the character, but not a bad version. Blond hair, blue eyes, and extremely lethal, he feels like Jason Bourne at first glance. However, he has the suave and gentleman nature that each Bond had before him, and he is working well in the role. He plays James Bond in the 21st century, and the slick black hair just isn't in anymore, is it? A new film, Bond 25, will release in 2020 starring Daniel Craig.
Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), and Spectre (2015).
Who Will Play Bond Next?
Esquire and several other sites have reported that Cillian Murphy could take on the mantle of James Bond. So far, nothing is definite, and we will have to see after Bond 25 comes out.
